Time is just flying by. . . each day passing in the blink of an eye. Evangeline is 4 1/2 months old now, growing like a weed! She is 15 lbs and 26 inches long. Each day with her is such a gift. She is rolling over, starting to sit up and chats up a storm. Such a little blessing to our family!

New Year, New Treats!

Wow! I can't believe it was October when I last posted. It was a busy holiday here and I am really happy to have the New Year upon us. As I sit here typing I have my sweet little Evangeline napping on my lap. She is 3 months old today and is growing by leaps and bounds. She is always chattering and cooing, and is the happiest baby. She is such a doll and her strawberry blond hair is beginning to come in.

On the creative front we have been busy the last few days getting ready for Valentine's Day (my favorite) and we will be listing tons of new items all week long. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter for updates and special offers this month. Here is a little preview of what's coming.

Tiny Blessings

I feel terrible for neglecting my blog for so long, however I have been a bit busy. Our sweet little girl, Evangeline Luna arrived on Oct. 2nd. She is just 3 weeks old now and we are enjoying every minute with her!

I have been getting lots of rest and thankfully, feeling pretty great! She is our third child and her big brother and sister just adore her!

My little strawberry blond, we are still trying to figure out who she resembles more. I think she has her own look with the best qualities of my husband and I.

Can't get enough of those tiny feet!

She is such a happy baby and we are so blessed to have her as the final addition to our family. We couldn't ask for anything more!
On a business note, we have begun working on new items and will be listing and re-opening later this week! Thank you for all your patience as I cherish every moment of being a Mommy to my baby girl!

Counting The Days

It has been a little while since my last post but this little girl has been keeping me on my toes, or should I say off of them! I have had to slow down and keep my feet up as I near the end of my pregnancy. Just a little over a month to go now and I am feeling it!

These were from a 3D ultrasound we had around 26 weeks. She is quite a character and was smiling at us, waving and sticking her tongue out. We can't wait to meet her and our 2 older children are beginning to think she will never actually get here. They look at me and say, Mommy, you look like you are going to explode!

With the kids back in school I now have more time to create and managed to get a few things done this week. Here is a sampling of just a few new items listed. We plan on remaining open through mid September and reopening around mid October depending when the baby decides to arrive. In the mean time hop on over and see what's new!

Frozen Charlotte Dolls

I am currently overrun with a rather large variety of Frozen Charlotte Dolls. I was fortunate enough to receive a shipment from Germany over the weekend and am just in love with all these sweet little girls.

There are all shapes, sizes and conditions, many of which are perfect for incorporating into art projects.

I have them tucked into every basket and bowl I can find!

The little ones are tucked into boxes and are just so adorable. As much as I adore them I plan on parting with the vast majority and let others enjoy playing with them too.

Getting Ready For Baby

We are starting to get ready for our new little girl who will be sharing a room with her big sister. We began by painting and then putting up the crib. We still have a ways to go and lots of empty wall space but we are well on our way!

While I forgot to take before pictures, I did manage to get a few photos of my hubby and daughter painting. It was originally an off white with brown closets and beige trim. This is the oldest bedroom in the house (1915). It has very high ceilings and has had a few renovations done before we moved in. We did put in new carpet and now finally paint!

Francesca had so much fun helping out!

Even I got in the fun, painting the closet. Looking at this picture I just noticed my "baby bump" has grown quite substantially from when this was taken just 3 weeks ago. Yikes! This paint by the way was wonderful! Almost completely odor free! We used a blush pink for the walls and marshmallow white for the ceiling and trim. I chose a soft green which I took from my daughter's bedding as an accent color for the closet and switch plates, etc.

Mr. Leo had was very curious throughout the entire process.

Francesca's bed. . .we have lots of wall space to fill and I am hoping to do a bit of treasure hunting this coming week. I also want to get a pink chandelier for the lighting.

The baby's crib. . . I considered painting it white but that just seemed like too much work at this point. I actually like the way it looks as is. Our other children used it and it is still like new! It also converts into a daybed which is nice for the toddler years.

I absolutely love this quilt!! So soft and vintage. I am going to create an eyelet dust ruffle and we still need a mobile but at least it is a start!

Love this super soft ruffly pillow.

Starting to get a few things for her!

My favorite piece of all is this beautiful hand crocheted baby blanket my sister made. She is so talented! I can't wait to snuggle up with my little one this coming Winter.

when you are pregnant. (Okay, not really) I can't believe a month has gone by since I have posted. I think my blog needs a little love. I have been doing what I can to get ready for our new little girl and work on the business as my body allows. I am having a bit of a rough time with this pregnancy so I have to stay off my feet which is not easy for me, but none the less, I have about 4 months to go.

I did manage to get several new things listed this morning including bundles of our grown dried lavender so I hope you enjoy!

Craving

Up until recently I have been pretty sick with this pregnancy (yep, baby #3 is on the way!). When we moved into our new home we were fortunate enough to have huge lemon, tangerine and tangelo trees. The smell of them coming through the window with the breeze is just heaven. As I have started to feel better and begin to actually keep food down I find myself craving lemons terribly! I have been squeezing them on everything I eat and have bowls of them all over the house. My husband thinks I'm crazy but I just keep cutting them up for the smell alone. This is really odd for me because I have never been one for sour foods. In the past 3 months however I have not had anything sweet apart from trying a bowl of ice cream a few times to help my aching tummy.

So I guess it will be lemons this time around. With my first it was avocados and milk, my second I craved bean and cheese burritos and again lots of milk. This time just lemons, oh and water. I can't get enough water. Let's hope this baby isn't a sourpuss. LOL

I just got my copy today of Fifi O' Neill's book Romantic Prairie Style. It is so beautiful and exactly what I was looking for to inspire me in decorating our new home. It is filled with wonderful ideas and gorgeous pictures. I highly recommend it. I just can't seem to put it down!

Settling In

It has been a very long few months but I am happy to report we are officially in our new home!! It feels so good to finally be here, boxes and all. It has only been a week but we are slowly settling in, unpacking and hunting for furniture to fill this large empty house. While my studio will be an ongoing project I plan on setting up a temporary space in the house to get the business back up and running very soon!

I had to share my absolute favorite new addition. This French Farmhouse dining table and bench. It seats up to 12 and just needs some chairs and a big bucket of dried lavender.

Very rustic and just what I had been looking for. It sits in front of a huge window seat overlooking fresh Rosemary bushes and beautiful fruit trees. I will have to share those soon! The dining room has hardwood floors so we decided to keep them and continue it into the living room.

I also love this built in hutch. For some reason everything here is painted a dark glossy chocolate brown. . but that will change soon. Picture a vintage white and the shelves filled with pretty things! We have many projects to do in this house and while I know it will take time I am enjoying doing things just as we want them. I also plan on sharing the transformations along the way. The house has very high ceilings and was built in 1915. It is just brimming with possibilities!

Now back to unpacking.

April in Paris

After being sick for over a week I am slowly getting back in the swing of things. One of our new collections was just completed and we have several others on the way! This one is called April in Paris. It is frilly and feminine and features a soft pastel palette
with lots of lace and ribbons.

It includes a variety of note cards, gift tags, journals, bottles, stamped bags and a few other treats! Each has a little French message.

I really love the images, they are rather stoic but very beautiful.

Some pieces also have stamped burlap accents.

This is the first journal. Lots of vintage lace and pretty paper rosettes adorn the cover, simple yet elegant.

A sweet bottle to fill with buttons or craft supplies.

The second journal has a wide row of vintage lace and a pastel graphic paper background. Very pretty in person, as you can tell I was beginning to loose my light while photographing these last few.

A Spare Moment

Though my spare moments are few and far between lately I managed to sneak in some time early this morning to list a few new items. It has been a busy week around here, sick kiddies, sick hubby and much cleaning going on. We have just a few weeks left before escrow closes so it is yard sale time!

I have been going through closets and cupboards. . . piles of things to get rid of and new goodies to buy!

We also need some new furnishings so I am really excited to go shopping!

Anywho. . .here are a few of the new treats now available here.

A Little Faith . . .

This is what I keep reminding myself lately, to have a little faith. I am happy to say it is working as things are gently falling into place. My husband and I are in the midst of buying our first house right now. We have just over 4 weeks to go until closing. I am so overjoyed, it really is a dream realized for us and we are so fortunate the house is just what we wanted. It is an old home built in 1915 with many unique original features. It needs some work but that will be the fun part! So lately when I find myself running around at a million miles an hour not realizing if I am coming or going I just stop and remind myself it will all be worth it very soon. Though I am unable to do all the projects I had planned for the shop this month, we are doing what we can to keep things going before I will be taking a break to get settled in to our new home. I am a bit superstitious so I won't say anymore but we will be sharing the transformation with you all as I have some big plans in mind.

A Few Vintage Valentines

Well vintage inspired anyways. I enjoyed another day of creating. It was cold and raining so the perfect time to get some new goodies made. I worked primarily on Valentines with a few wedding things as well.

I was on a roll today and before I knew it, made well over a dozen gift tags. Don't you just love it when you are "in the zone."

I also stamped some gift bags. . .

and made some new note cards. I just love the way they turned out and it was nice to play with pink for a change.

Just Messing Around

It was a sunny cool day here and while the kids enjoyed playing outside I took some time to play a bit as well. It has been such a busy few months here as we have been house hunting and have finally found our little dream home. Now while we wait for things to move forward with it I jumped at the chance today to relax and create just for the fun of it! The first thing I did was this wreath. I have always wanted to make one so I tried my hand at it and this is the result!

I also made a creamy lace covered canvas. .

and a few Valentine treats. It was such an enjoyable day and now that I have the creating bug I am off to play some more this evening!

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

As a child I couldn't wait for Christmas to come. I would stalk those presents under the tree, gently shaking the boxes trying to guess what was inside. This year as my children do the same I find myself waiting. . . with great anticipation for what will be a wonderful gift of sorts. A new home. We have been, and continue to wait patiently. Well, truth be told I am actually somewhat impatient . . for our house to come through. I just keep hearing the lyrics from that Tom Petty song over and over in my head. "The waiting is the hardest part." I do vow to remain optimistic that with the new year will come many wonderful changes for myself and my family. We have waited this long and I'm sure I can wait a few weeks longer. In the mean time I will go on singing my song and planning for our new home.

A Cherished Moment

I took a break the other day from the craziness that is December and worked on a little junque book. It felt really good to create just for the fun of it. With a nice cup of Nutcracker tea in hand and a little Etta James in the background, it was one of those rare quiet moments in what has become an extra busy time of year. You see we are in the midst of buying a house and well it is a bit hectic being around the holidays, it is a very exciting time for us. I'll share more on the house front as it unfolds.

Back to the little junque book. I decided not to over do it, but rather just get it started and leave it for someone to add their own special touches.

Thankful

This year has taught me so many things. . . patience, faith, tenacity, and most of all to remain open and optimistic for the future while embracing each day. It was a trying year in so many ways, and now as Thanksgiving approaches I am reminded of something I feel everyday. Thankful. . .for my family, my friends, to be able to do what I love for a living, and most of all the unwavering love and support of my husband and children. This journey is so much more meaningful with them by my side. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday with those you love most.

In With The New

I am way past due for a blog post. Lately however, I can't seem to tell whether I am coming or going! Between working/creating, running a household, keeping 2 very active children busy, buying a house and the million and one other things we do as moms and wives, well . . . at the end of the day I simple collapse on the couch and knock out.

Despite all this hustle and bustle I really wouldn't have it any other way. It is a joy each day to grab my list and start knocking off items one at a time, having that sense of accomplishment when I am done. . even it is only something as simple as folding the laundry that has been piled up for too many days to mention.

With that said, here are a few new journal designs just listed. They are girly and feminine but I just had to put the holidays aside and start dreaming of soft pastels for a change.

I know Halloween is just around the corner, literally . . . but I am already moving on to well . . . pinker things. :)

Loving Fall

I am really loving Fall this year. In one week we have gone from 114* to 60's and rain. It has been so long since we have had rain. I think it was maybe in April so this is nice. The cooler weather inspired me to bake a batch of pumpkin muffins for breakfast today and take a much needed break from what has been a very hectic, busy few weeks. We are house hunting, and while it is exciting it is also a ton of work. I guess I didn't realize just how much work! I have spent my days running around looking at properties and getting paperwork to one person or another. We hope something comes through and we can be moved before Christmas. (fingers crossed)

Well, back to enjoying my sweater weather.

How To: Kissing Balls

Recently I was given these small green moss balls pictured below and was trying to figure out what to do with them. I decided to try my hand at making kissing balls. It ended up being a simple and fun project!

To begin with you need moss covered styrofoam balls in a size of your choice. The ones I used ranged from 2-3" in diameter.

I began with bouquets of parchment roses in white.

Cut the roses from the stem, you will need a fairly large quantity of roses depending on the size of the ball and the rose.

Using a hot glue gun begin attaching roses around the ball.

Continue working until the ball is covered on all sides with a small space left to attach the ribbons.

Choose some ribbons from which to hang your kissing ball or if you like you can leave them plain to fill a bowl or cloche. I used crinkled seam binding for mine. Dot a bit of glue onto the ball and using a straight pin attach the ribbons in a loop.

The finished product! I attached a little stamped tag to mine as well.

You can make these with a variety of roses for all seasons.

In An Autumn Mood

Well it's 106* right now outside, and Fall is officially here so I thought I would share a few goodies new to the shop. I know you are thinking Fall/106*. . . well, out here in Southern California the beginning of Autumn is almost always marked by an excessive heatwave. So here I sit, inside where the air is cool I can dream of cozy sweaters, pumpkin lattes and a new pair of boots!

First up is an abundance of gift tags, I just couldn't help it. I adore these new images and the roses are in the most beautiful shades. They remind me of an early Autumn sunset.

I do have several new projects in the works but wanted to stock up on some of the old standbys while I was on a roll.

And yet more tags. . .

We also have several new journals, made to order.

These are a few of my favorites.

My kids and I spend a lot of time at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and this little garland was inspired by all the beautiful peacocks we enjoy there.

We also have lots of new altered note cards.
Well. . . back to work on some goodies.

A Creative Moment

I have spent the last few weeks working on filling wholesale orders. Mind you I am forever grateful for the opportunity to do this and while it is enjoyable, it is not the same as simply sitting down and creating because you simply must or you will burst!

I forced myself to take some time and just have fun. As I sat and began wrapping bits of lace around tags and stamping here and there it was as though this pent up energy was being released.

I love how you get in a rhythm and it all just sort of flows from there.

While I made several things these two "creative pockets" were some of my favorites. I used a chipboard backing from Melissa Frances as the base and just sort of built on them with bits of lace, vintage buttons, keys. . .anything lying around.

Voila!
Now I can joyfully go back to wholesale for a bit longer. This was just the creative moment I needed!

A Welcomed Weekend

This has been an extremely long week and I am welcoming the weekend with open arms. I wish I could share all the details but I don't like to count my chickens before they've hatched so let's just say something really exciting for my family and I is in the works and I hope it comes to fruition. That being said. . .

I just haven't had much time for creating this week. I am however, setting aside this weekend for some fun once I recharge my batteries.

A Lazy Sunday

I don't know about you but I am enjoying a lazy Sunday of sorts. It is nice and cool here today, almost feels like Fall after a week with over 100* temps! I have lounged around, did a bit of organizing, the usual laundry and now am listing a few new goodies.

I thought I would share something I finished up the other day. It is my first attempt at a paper cone wreath. It was going to be for Christmas but sort of ended up Halloween instead. I am rather pleased with how it turned out and am anxious to try a few smaller versions.

I also found this great shaker caddy . . perfect for glitter! Back to work for me. . ahh the weekends just go by too fast.

Paperie Party- Getting Back to Business

Hello all! As this week winds down I feel like I am finally settling into a new routine (minus the kiddies) and getting back to business! While I miss my little one who is now in Kindergarten, it feels really good to have time to devote to work without a juggling act. German Glass Glitter

I found so many pretty vintage shakers this weekend at the flea market. I filled them with fine grain German glass glitter and added a little stamped tag and flower to each.

Just a simple way to make playing with glitter more fun.

Another Flea Market Trip

Today I went with a dear friend to the Flea Market. This trip was pure shopping fun! I decided to finally treat myself to a few goodies as well as pick up some things for the site. This beautiful lace blouse was my favorite find of the day and it was a steal!

I also picked up this pretty white lace one. There were so many to choose from I am already planning a return trip to my new favorite vendor.

I have a collection of old box purses and this one was so unique I had to have it! It is wooden with a really cute scene. I forgot to get a picture but it is fully lined and padded and has a mirror in it as well.

Here is a close up of the picture on the back. Too cute!

Another favorite find of the day was this great little dress form. I added a tag and some pretty ribbons. I just love the images it is covered with! This one will be available soon!

Of course I had to have more lace. I know I just blogged below about my big stash I recently acquired but I had to get some more! I plan on sharing a few of these ones.

Well I don't want to share it all but my cart was overflowing with really great finds today!

Halloween in July

Every year there is always such a big to do about Christmas in July. While I like Christmas, I really love Halloween. This year I thought I would get a little head start on one of my favorite Holidays.

Of course there has to be a little bit of Poe! As an English major he was always one of my favorites.

And I admit. . I was always the girl dressed in black when I was younger. :p

So I was feeling pretty inspired and these are a few of the things I came up with!

Crowning Glory

A Little Treasure Box

I found this pretty picture on a most dreadful brown wooden plaque a while back.

It has been sitting around for a while and I finally decided to dismantle the plaque and thought it would be the perfect addition to this old jewelry box.

It is filled with lots of pretties to create with.

Today I found some wonderful goodies while venturing to my favorite treasure trove. I'm not sure what it is lately but I find myself drawn to white. I guess it's the clean, simple look of it, like these beautiful pitchers. My house is full of color, which I love. Deep plums and rich reds, but a break would be nice. Perhaps when we move (in the not so distant future) I will have a white room. A clean space and break for my eyes among my vibrant palette. Well, here is a look at a pretty pitcher and some sparkle too!

I could just see this pitcher with a big bouquet of fresh picked flowers.

The Getty Villa

We took a trip yesterday to The Getty Villa in Malibu. It was a beautiful day, clear and sunny and the ocean is literally right across the street from the museum which is nestled in the hills.

We wanted to see The Aztec Pantheon which was only on exhibit for a few more days. Of course when we got home we realized we didn't take any pictures of it! It was really amazing! There were so many so many unbelievable pieces on display including a sacrificial stone and vessels used in offerings to the Gods. It was really incredible!

This is one of the first views as you approach the museum from the staircase above. A little walk but so beautiful!

The long halls and marble floors were just breathtaking. There was so much attention to detail in the architecture.

My little monkeys. They really enjoyed it, especially my 8yr. old. He is very into Ancient Greece and mythology right now so he was in awe of everything.

This fountain is in the middle of the courtyard.

There were many beautiful mosaics.

Again the details in everything were breathtaking! There was so much pottery and to see the real thing in person just leaves you speechless.

Zeus in a larger than life depiction.

There were pictures showing how the statues were found and excavated. Some were standing straight up in ground under layers of rock.

Another stunning garden and fountain.

Dionysus was of course very popular and found everywhere.

Hermes in the garden. These were of course reproductions but wonderful nonetheless.

This hall was wonderful. I loved the ceiling below.

As we left you can see the ocean in the background. It was a wonderful day, I only wish we would have taken more pictures of the art itself! You just get so caught up in it that you forget to snap photos. Keeping little ones busy hands occupied is also not easy. They were really good though and I look forward to visiting again someday!

A Busy Week!

It has been quite a week here! Getting the new site ready, the holiday coming up, running around like crazy doing errands and beginning designs on new lines for Halloween and Christmas, I am ready for a break!!

I was so excited today when these beauties arrived today! I grabbed the box which smelled divine and opened it to find a wonderful array of hand stamped trims and stunning, sweet smelling lavender sachets.

Well the time is here! Welcome to the Where Bloggers Create II Party! I am really excited to see all the amazing work spaces of so many creative women out there in blogland. Thanks so much to Karen of My Desert Cottage for hosting this fabulous event!

I guess I should start by saying hello and thank you for visiting. My name is Carrie and I am the owner/designer of a vintage inspired paperie called Noelle Garrett Designs. We have been around for over 2 years now and enjoy creating a mix of unique paper goodies and altered vintage pieces. I live in sunny southern CA with my hubby, 2 kiddies and 2 kitties!

My creative space is not very large but I make due with what I have and find inspiration in whichever current muse is hanging around. For now it is St. Joan. I usually have 2-3 vintage dress forms in varying stages of transformation at any give time. Though they are hard to part with it is exciting to think they are out there in the world making someone else smile.

Fresh flowers are a must and I usually have a little bouquet lying around. They just make me smile and I love bright colors, especially in the summer!

This was my daughter's changing table. It works well to keep me semi-organized. We aren't having anymore kids, are we? (wink wink)

Because space is so limited I make use of many trunks, boxes and baskets to store oodles of lace, flowers and more.

Yet more bowls and boxes of stamped muslin.

I love this little wooden tote. It is perfect for taking tiny projects with me.

You will find all sorts of dress forms as my collection is steadily growing.

Tags and bottles are always in abundance in all shapes and sizes.

This great old desk is where I do my paperwork which from the looks of it is long overdue! Yikes!

A Little Treat

So I finally found a free hour in what has been a ridiculously busy week and took a little time to treat myself to some new summer pretties. My sweetie gave me a gift card to my favorite boutique for my b-day and I couldn't wait to spend it! I found way too many things. Here are a few of my favorites. I love these soft vintage inspired blouses!

I also snatched up some cute sundresses.

Finally, I just had to have this bag. My hubby didn't quite "get it" but I love it! It is so girly. What do you think? Now all I need is a cute pair of sandals and some summer fun! I have one more day to go in this crazy marathon, but tomorrow I will be able to get back to creating and doing what makes me smile!

This coming week is going to be an extremely busy one for me. I start off my Monday by turning the big 35! I have to plan a birthday dinner . . . for myself. That is, I have to cook one. I am thinking dinner out sounds like a much better idea, don't you? Moving on. . .

There are also a gazillion and one things happening as it is my son's last week as a 2nd grader! There are parties, picnics and the list goes on. . .

It is also my little one's Ballet recital, and rehearsals of course, and her last soccer game of the season. My 4 1/2 yr. old is a very active little girl! Mommy. . not so much, give me a magazine, a glass of iced tea and a nice breeze and I am happy as can be!

We may also be taking a little road trip up north, I have a Mom's night out as well, and then there are the wonderful goodies coming in this week! New cards, tags, and yummies for the home! I can't wait for my mail to arrive tomorrow!

Whew! I am tired already! I was thinking when I started typing that I hope I can find a bit of bliss this week, but after looking at the things I have going on I realized I will be overflowing with bliss all week long! :)

Back From a Break

I took a little break and got some much needed rest. I had such a nice little vacation relaxing with my hubby and the kiddos. Now I am back to work and just listed the first of three new vintage dress forms. This one is St. Joan and she has my heart! Parting with her will be bittersweet.

We also got a wonderful new shipment of Prima flowers in.

The colors are so beautiful I can't wait to play with them!

Where the wind takes me. .

Today I woke up wanting a different kind of day.

Maybe it was the blue skies and white puffy clouds, or the swirling winds . . . I just had that feeling like a change of pace was in order. I glanced over at the dress forms I have waiting to be finished and just groaned and curled up on the couch instead. You see, I have been feeling a bit frazzled, burnt out, tired, uninspired. . . you name it!

I looked at my 4 yr. old and said, "Today we play!" She of course squealed with glee and we proceeded to play with her baby dolls for a while. . which lead to a tea party picnic in the back yard.

While in the back yard relaxing the wind began to pick up which made me think it would be a nice day to hang out some linens to air dry. I proceeded to the kitchen and filled two big bowls, one with black tea bags the other with walnut crystals.
We (Francesca & I) grabbed everything we could find and began to play. . swirling around tags, ribbons, linens, muslin and lace in the tea and walnut crystals. This lead us back outside to hang them all to dry. . and play some more.

A few hours later our treasures were ready and we brought them in to see our work. I began to sort and stack the tags, and hang some of the ribbons up which brought me back to my workspace and reminded me of my dress forms sitting there staring at me. I picked up a fleur di lis stamp and some of the fresh dyed muslin and well. . .

I suppose this is what happens when you let the wind take you where it may. She in not quite complete but Joan (of Arc) is on her way!

Oh. . and I no longer feel burnt out, tired, frazzled. . . you get the picture.

I have these 3 dress forms that need some dolling up. One has been sitting here for over 6 months. . .the others are new arrivals. My goal is to have them all ready sometime next week. (She says laughing to herself) Truth is, I always get sidetracked and end up starting another project. This time however, I am determined to put all else aside and get these girls done! That being said. . her is a little preview of Miss Eliza in the very early stages of her transformation.

Long Beach Flea

Today we took a trip to the Long Beach Flea Market for a little treasure hunting. Before I go any further I have to give photo credit to Francesca G. (my 4 yr. old). She was in charge of pictures on this trip so most of the pictures here are taken by her. I spared you the many naked Barbie shots. he he he

It was a cool, drizzly morning but there were plenty of people ready to shop and lots of great things! This booth has so many pretties!

Everywhere you looked there were wonderfully worn old suitcases. I even jumped on one which will be available later this week.

This bike was fixed up rather cute and oh my. . is that a duck! I remember my mom having a houseful of ducks from when I was a kid.

Here are just a few of the items I came home with. This great suitcase and tons of bottles! Every color you can imagine. I can't wait to get my hands on them!

This piece is so beautiful. It is a pair of vintage combination underwear. The woman I purchased them from was from England and she said these along with other items I purchased were part of her Great Grandmother's trousseau and she had no use for them. I couldn't imagine parting with them!

Here is a close up of some of the lace. They really are stunning and have beautiful glass button closures both on the shoulders and on the bottom of the. . unmentionables

This beautiful cami was also part of the set. These pieces are so petite and dainty.

We found lots of vintage French lace. .

and this fun peachy-pink crinoline. These are just a few of the many items we gathered on this trip. I will be listing new goodies all week long and now I am off to play with my new bottles! (I just can't get enough of them).

Oh Elusive Sleep. . .

I am a sleeper, and I was blessed with children who can go on just enough sleep to recharge their batteries. . ahhh. Oh somehow I must try and squeeze a nap in today.

Aged Cotton

I love the look of cotton that has aged to a soft creamy white.

How the little circles in eyelet begin to show the signs of time.

To me the crinkles and folds just add to the charm.

The frayed edges of romantic florals stamped with sweet sentiments or adorned with bits of sparkle get my mind going and I think of all the pretty things I want to make. You know, as much as I love old frayed cotton there are two things I love even more.

These faces which remind me how truly blessed I am not just today. . on Mother's Day, but every day

Sunny Days & Inspiration

Nothing recharges me like a warm sunny day. I enjoyed this afternoon picnicking outside with my family. On the menu was cheese enchiladas, rice, black beans and fresh fruit. It was so nice and relaxing, and a great preview of Summer. . my favorite time of year!

After lunch it was time to come in and get a few pictures taken. Here is a sampling of what I worked on this weekend.

I was on a bit of a bottle kick and made several in various sizes. I just love them and use them everywhere.

These vintage sheet music tussie mussies are accented with hand made lace roses and turned out rather pretty I thought.

When I first saw handmade lace roses on Lori of Katie's Rose Cottage's Blog I knew I had to try my hand at making some. Hers are just beautiful and adorn her line of pillows that are to die for! You must stop by and see them.

She got the idea and tutorial here at Everyday Chaos, such a fun blog!

These are a few so far. I added a few extra goodies as I twisted away and well. . .they are so much fun to make. The first few were a little funky but they got better with each one. I plan on adding some to journals, dress forms and just about anything else I can!

9 Years .. and Counting

I can't believe 9 years ago today I became a Misses. I am truly the luckiest girl in the world and am so blessed to be on what I like to call the eternal date with my sweetie.
He still gives me butterflies all these years later.

As he told me today with a beautiful bouquet of deep purple tulips. ."here's to 90 more my love!"

A Tasty Dinner!

I made dinner the other night and I don't know if it was the setting sun shining in the window as we ate or the wine that went along with it but it just looked and tasted so good I thought I would share a few pictures (not the best, I had to hurry, the kids were starving) and a little recipe.

I just made a simple meal, Italian sausage and peppers and a side of pasta with garlic, olive oil and fresh basil.
Here goes!

Sausage and Peppers

5-6 links or more of Turkey Italian Sausage (of course you can use regular It. sausage, I don't eat read meat so thus the turkey)
2-3 tbs. extra virgin olive oil
1/2 white or yellow onion
1-2 large Bell Peppers red/green
3-4 potatoes of choice, I like the little red
White Wine
Salt & Pepper
Fresh Basil and Imported Pecorino Romano Cheese (parmesan is also acceptable) for garnish

I don't really measure things when I cook so these directions are really forgiving.
Heat oil in large pot, lightly saute roughly chopped onion. Brown sausage on all sides.
Add large cubed potatoes with skins, large chopped bell peppers and a bit of salt and pepper to taste.
Cover with lid and cook for a few minutes, turning sausage as necessary.
Add at least a 1/4 of a bottle of your favorite white wine, again I don't really measure so a glass for me a few glasses for the food. :)

Cover and cook on med. heat until potatoes are softened, oh about 15 min I suppose, check it every so often, give it a little stir.

Serve with fresh grated romano and chopped basil. YUM!

* You must have the best bread to serve with this because of all the juice this dish makes. Growing up Italian I was taught you must dip your bread in the juice of all your food and dinner without a side of bread was just unheard of! A habit that is so hard for me to break.

Pasta is simple, angel hair tossed with garlic sauteed in olive oil and fresh chopped basil, a bit of fresh grated Romano and you are good to go!

Well I hope you will give this simple, hearty dish a try one night!

Playing Tag. . Again

One of our favorite things to do is create pretty tags. Sometimes I come across people who ask me, "What can you do with them?" and I always say, "What can't you do with them!" I love to use them just about anywhere I have an empty space!

I have them tucked in mirrors, picture frames, tied with pretty trims to hold back curtains, hanging from hooks, jewelry stands, in shadow boxes and the list goes on.

There are just so many more uses than just a gift tag, although who wouldn't love a pretty little lacy creation tied on their package.

We hope you feel inspired to come up with unique uses for tags as well, let us know how you use them and if it is truly unique and original we will send you a set of our tags- free!

A New Week

I don't now if it's the warm weather we are having but I am full of energy and ideas! I have all my supplies sitting here just waiting to be used. I do however have a bit of extra company this week. My 7 year old is on Spring Break so we will be out and about enjoying a few days of sunny warm weather. My little sweeties are going to help me plant some flowers and a new herb garden tomorrow! I can't wait to get my hands in some soil for a change.

I did take some time to get this lovely piece completed. We really enjoy embellishing these crinolines! It is available here if you are interested.

What's new Wednesday!

For me Wednesday is usually spent running around at a million miles an hour! We have a Mommy & Me class and then it's off to ship packages, pick up my son at school, the joys of homework (my 7yr. old thinks mom knows nothing and being a teacher for over 7 years doesn't count), then dinner, family time and back to the studio for me! Today was different, my littlest sweet pea is sick so we spent the day at the doctors and then nursing her fever. Poor thing, it breaks my heart to see them so sick. While she napped I grabbed a minute to share a few of my new favorite things with you. I am really loving this antique look!

American Pickers on the History Channel. I am really not much of a t.v. watcher but stumbled upon it last month while I was sick and lounging on the couch became my activity of choice. Well, now I can't get enough of it! I guess it is the thrill of the hunt. If you are not familiar with the show it follows two "pickers" as they scour the country for antiques and treasures to sell. They dig through old barns, sheds and just about anywhere else you can think of. It amazes me how some people can accumulate so much over the years and never part with it. I couldn't imagine living with that much. . .stuff, but watching them literally hunt for treasures is just so much fun, not knowing what they will find next. If you haven't checked it out I suggest you do.

I have to tell you. . .I was on a field trip with my 4 yr. old yesterday and we went to an old farm for an orange festival (here she is making fresh orange juice). They had tons of rusty old farm equipment and chippy old crates and boxes. There were several sheds with antique cars and rusty goodies! I took a few pictures. . most of which unfortunately, turned out blurry with just my little old camera. The other mothers must have thought I was crazy getting all excited about a bunch of "junk." I was just itching to go in one of the barns and see what was inside! Maybe someday, in another life I can travel the country in search of wonderful "junk" too!

A Jar of Fun!

I spent my morning putting together these fun little art kits.

I found these great glass wire handled jars a while back and have been contemplating what I wanted to do with them.

I started sticking things in them for storage and realized what great little kits they would make. I lined them with vintage lace and filled them with paper, buttons, flowers and all sorts of goodies.

I also made some new pixies. These are so much fun. I use these whenever I send a card or on top of packages.

A Little Before. . .

I found some really great pieces while out treasure hunting today and thought I would share a few "before" pictures with you. Oh I know they look wonderful as they are but I am just dying to get my hands on them. Wouldn't those glass jars make great little art kits? A bit of rolled paper, some pretty flowers, a few vintage buttons and of course lots of lace! Or perhaps just a simple tag dangling off the side with a bit of crinkled seam binding will do.

This lovely little dear is circa 1923 I am told. I am anxious to add a little touch to this already charming piece. I just love washboards and rarely have good luck finding them, however this one found me.

Finally, a little French flower bucket will be pretty as a picture soon enough!
In just a day or so these little treasures of mine will be ready to debut their "after" pictures. Stay tuned. . .

I just love this artichoke finial and find myself leaning towards a mix of whites and creams, sort of a vintage inspired color palette as of late. This is a rather atypical coming from someone who grew up insistent upon having bright red walls in her bedroom. Maybe it's just a phase, but it feels so calm and comforting right now.
